I. Substrate Pretreatment: The Foundation for Bonding Firmness
1. Substrate Material and Flatness Requirements
- High-density fiberboard (HDF) or multi-layer solid wood is preferred. The moisture content should be controlled between 8%–12%. Excessive moisture content can lead to blistering and mold growth later, while insufficient moisture will affect adhesive adhesion.
- The substrate surface must be sanded smooth and burr-free, with a flatness error ≤0.2mm/m. Edges and corners must be rounded to R2–R3mm (right angles can easily scratch the film, causing stress concentration and warping).
- Remove dust and oil from the substrate surface using a dust collector and electrostatic eliminator to prevent dust residue from forming bubbles. 2. Adhesive Application Specifications
- Use PVC vacuum forming-specific hot melt adhesive or water-based vacuum forming adhesive. Apply the adhesive evenly, controlling the adhesive layer thickness to 0.15–0.2mm. Avoid excessive adhesive overflow or insufficient adhesive, which can lead to poor adhesion.
- After applying the adhesive, control the drying time according to the adhesive type (water-based adhesives need to be dried until the adhesive layer is semi-dry, hot melt adhesives require temperature control) to ensure activation effect.
II. PVC Film Material Selection and Pretreatment 1. Film Material Matching
- Select a film material with appropriate toughness based on the wooden door shape: flat doorscan use a standard thickness (0.3–0.5mm) PVC film; **irregularly shaped doors (including concave and convex lines, curves)** require a high-toughness, thickened PVC film (0.5–0.8mm)to prevent stretching and cracking during vacuum forming.
- If the wooden door is used in humid environments such as kitchens and bathrooms, a moisture-resistant PVC filmshould be selected. Styles with a wear-resistant coating on the surface are more durable. 2. Film Pretreatment
- Before vacuum forming, place the PVC film in a constant temperature and humidity environment of 20–25℃ and approximately 50% humidity for 24 hours to eliminate stress generated during transportation and prevent shrinkage and warping later.
- Inspect the film surface for scratches, color differences, and texture defects, ensuring the wood grain direction matches the door layout.
III. Vacuum Forming Equipment Parameter Control: Core Process Control Points
1. Temperature Control
Divided into preheating temperature and vacuum forming temperature: The PVC film preheating temperature is typically 80–120℃. It needs to be heated evenly to fully soften the film (too cold will result in insufficient stretching, while too hot will cause shrinkage, discoloration, and loss of toughness).
2. Vacuum and Pressure Control
- The vacuum level needs to reach 0.08–0.1 MPa. The vacuuming speed should be stable. First, use low pressure to adsorb the film onto the substrate surface, then use high pressure to compact it. Avoid rapid vacuuming, which can cause uneven stretching and texture deformation of the film.
- Positive pressure (compressed air pressure) is controlled at 0.3–0.5 MPa for compaction of irregularly shaped parts, ensuring the membrane material adheres tightly to uneven areas without any air pockets. 3. Time Control
- Preheating time: Adjusted according to membrane thickness. For 0.5mm membrane material, the preheating time is approximately 30–60 seconds, until the membrane material softens and can be stretched freely without collapsing.
- Vacuum forming pressure holding time: Approximately 20–40 seconds, ensuring the adhesive is fully activated, the membrane material and substrate are completely bonded, and it does not easily spring back after cooling.
